If she can’t think of anything, then we plan something:
- a walk through the Arboretum
- a chick movie with her best girlfriend
- an afternoon in a funky bookstore
- coloring in a new coloring book, with a brand new box of crayons
- designing a new quilt
It depends on the woman and what she considers fun.
For some of my clients who have walked through divorce, custody arguments, job changes, house sales, etc – finding some fun is the last thing on their lists.
Yet…finding something fun to do needs to be a priority.
Without some fun, we become tangled up in all the stresses of life.
Without something enjoyable, creative or beautiful in our lives – the mundane becomes the ordinary and we forget how to laugh.
Without some type of fun, we present only our business side to our children. We can become drab, grumpy and horrible to live with.
Doing something fun is important for health. It helps us balance out the stresses. It reminds us that we are more than who we are at work. It helps our children realize the importance of play, and it gives us hope that someday we will be able to laugh without forcing it.

Kind of makes you realize your life isn’t all that terrible.
So … go ahead and make a list of all the fun things you want to do. Then schedule at least one of those fun things for this week. Another one for next week and so on.
Make sure that each week includes at least one fun thing to do. Look forward to that fun event, then journal about it and how you felt while doing something fun.
What have you scheduled for fun this week?
