kid with paint splotchesWhen we’re Starting Over Single, we can often feel as if we’re trapped:

  • Trapped in a job we don’t like
  • Trapped within financial struggles
  • Trapped in the house with kids who demand so much
  • Trapped in the shame of divorce
  • Trapped within the replaying of those old abusive tapes

But I’m here to tell you we don’t have to be trapped anymore. We can move forward into a new life where we thrive, use our gifts, find financial support, learn how to be patient mothers and ignore the replaying of old tapes.

The place to start living free is in the mind. When we visualize our freedom and become our authentic selves, the prison walls begin to fade.

One of the places I go to free my mind is the book of Psalms. Specifically, Psalm 81:10 helps to remind me I don’t have to live as a trapped woman anymore.

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”

God is the one who reminds me who I am, and he is the one who freed me from the mental traps I lived in. He rescued me from a destructive relationship and he set me free to be the woman he created me to be.

If you remember the history of the Israelites, they were bond slaves in Egypt for many years. But then God sent Moses to rescue them and they were suddenly free.

God removed the burden of their slavery and set them free from cruel taskmasters. He heard their cries of distress and rescued them.

He will do the same for us.

God cares about women and he particularly dislikes the abuses and toxic relationships that imprison women. Like a loving Father, he wants the very best for his daughters. He wants us to grow and thrive, to be free to make wise choices and to raise our children in safe places.

He wants us to experience freedom with all its joys and possibilities.

Sometimes we need an extra boost to find our way out of the prisons surrounding us. That’s when we need support groups, coaches or counselors to help us find our escape routes.

At GateWay of Hope, we can provide that type of help for you. Call us at 913.393.GATE (4283) or email me at RebeccaT@GWHope.org.

In the meantime, keep believing in your freedom, read through Psalm 81 and believe it. You don’t have to live as a trapped woman.
